Frequently Asked Questions
Planning an event? Here are answers to some of the questions I hear most often.
Will a magic show work for adults? Aren’t magic shows for kids?
Absolutely! My entertainment is designed with adults in mind. I combine sophisticated sleight of hand, surprising mind reading, and clean comedy to create an experience that gets people laughing, interacting, and wondering, “How did he do that?” It’s a great fit for corporate events, weddings, and private celebrations.
Exactly how “naughty” is your show?
My show is Deceptively Funny℠—and clean. You don’t need to worry about offensive language, inappropriate material, or embarrassing your guests. The humor is playful and perfectly suited to a professional audience that’s ready to relax and have fun.
Do you use audience participation?
Yes! Your guests help make each performance unique. Participation is friendly and lighthearted, with the goal of making people feel comfortable and look good. Whether I’m performing at a table or on stage, we’re laughing together.
What types of events have you entertained?
I’ve performed at corporate holiday parties, conferences, employee celebrations, grand openings, weddings, adult birthday parties, fundraisers, and private gatherings. My clients include companies such as Tenneco, Planet Fitness, Real Estate One, and Pita Way, as well as organizations such as Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research.
What size audiences do you entertain?
From small private gatherings to large corporate audiences, I tailor the entertainment to the occasion. Strolling magic works well when guests are mingling or seated at tables. A stage or parlor show brings everyone together for a shared experience. Tell me your expected guest count, and I’ll recommend the best format.
How much space will you need for your show?
Strolling magic requires no stage—I perform right where your guests are gathering. For a stage or parlor show, I need a clear performance area with good visibility and room for participating guests. Positioning the show against a long wall often keeps the audience closer. We’ll discuss the best arrangement for your room, and my technical rider provides further guidance.
What will you need for sound and lighting?
For a stage or parlor show, clear sound and lighting that makes the performance easy to see are important. I bring my own wireless music control and Shure wireless microphone system with a DPA headset microphone, which can integrate with your venue’s PA system. I can also provide a professional sound system if needed. We’ll coordinate the details before your event.
How long is your show?
My full stage or parlor show typically runs about an hour. Strolling magic is scheduled around your event, such as a cocktail reception or dinner. We’ll choose the timing and format that work best for your guests and schedule.
Where are you based, and how far do you travel?
I’m based in Metro Detroit and travel nationwide. Whether your event is close to home or across the country, I’m happy to discuss availability and travel arrangements.
How much do you charge?
Pricing depends on the performance format, length, location, date, and any special requirements. Share a few details about your event, and I’ll provide a quote with a recommendation for the entertainment that fits it best.
What’s the difference between strolling magic and a stage show?
Strolling magic gives small groups an up-close experience during a reception, dinner, or party. The magic happens inches away—and sometimes right in your guests’ hands. A stage or parlor show gathers everyone together for a performance combining comedy, magic, mind reading, and audience participation. You can also combine both formats.
Can you customize the entertainment for our company or event?
Yes! I can discuss ways to incorporate your company, guests, or event theme into the performance. For corporate programs, I can also weave meaningful business or communication ideas into the entertainment. Custom elements are planned in advance so they feel natural and fit your goals.
When is the best time to schedule the entertainment?
Strolling magic is a natural fit for cocktail hour or other times when guests are socializing. A stage or parlor show often works well after dinner, once plates have been cleared and everyone can enjoy the performance. I’ll help you place the entertainment where it supports the flow of your event.
Is magic a good fit for a wedding?
Absolutely. Magic gives guests something fun to share during cocktail hour or the reception, helps break the ice between people who haven’t met, and creates memorable moments for the couple and their guests. I coordinate with your schedule so the entertainment complements your celebration.
Can we book both strolling magic and a show?
Yes! Starting with strolling magic gives guests a chance to meet me and experience something up close. A stage or parlor show later brings everyone together for a fun finish. This combination works especially well for corporate dinners and private celebrations.
How far in advance should we book?
As soon as you have a date and venue, it’s a good idea to check availability—especially for holiday parties and popular wedding dates. If your event is coming up soon, please ask. I may still have your date available.
How do we check availability?
Use the Check Availability form on this website, call 800-668-2660, or email info@sleightofmind.com. Include your event date, location, approximate guest count, and the type of celebration you’re planning.
